The Missouri Quizbowl Alliance would like to invite you to the fourth annual NAQT Missouri Qualifier, to be held on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia on March 5, 2011.
This tournament will be run in the twenty tossup/bonus format on NAQT IS-104. Games consist of twenty tossups worth ten points each followed by non-rebounding bonuses worth up to thirty points. Tossups will feature "powers" (additional points awarded for correct buzzes very early in the question) and "negs" (five point deductions for incorrect answers before the question is finished).
Format: Missouri state format with only three quarters to speed
up the games. A Swiss pairing format will be used for
the four games played. The questions are written by myself
and have lots of current events and trivial knowledge. Math
questions will not go above algebra II level.
Participants: Freshmen and sophomores. Teams made up of any
combination.
Cost: $25.00 per team.
Awards: Team plaques for top four teams.
Top eight individuals receive medals.

Branson High School
Lexington High School will host its annual varsity academic tournament on Saturday, March 26, 2011. If sufficient teams enter, the field will be divided into two divisions. The top four finishers in each division will receive trophies, and members of champion teams will receive medals. All-Tournament teams for both divisions will be named, and those players will receive medals. We will use Missouri format, and NAQT -- the district and state provider -- will supply the questions. The tournament will also serve as a NAQT national championship qualifying tournament.
Email registration information to: Susan Sheeley ssheeley@salem.k12.mo.us The tournament is open to junior varsity players only. No seniors and no underclassmen who have played mostly as a varsity player or who played varsity in previous district or state competitions.
We will have these basic eligibility rules:
* All freshmen can play.
* All sophomores who did not attend a quizbowl national championship in the past can play.
* All juniors who never played a tournament before their junior year can play.
* No seniors can play.
For our Junior Varsity Tournament, we will be using the following eligibility rules:
• All freshmen can play.
• All sophomores who have not played in a national championship can play.
• All juniors who never played a tournament their freshman or sophomore years can play.
• No seniors can play.
This is a varsity tournament, but you may bring more than one team.
We would like this to be a smaller school tournament, so please only 3A and below. I have 6 confirmed entries right now, with 2 more possible. First come first serve.
Thank you
